Gogmagogs

The structure of the second show was the same as the first show, but this time seven composers were from as far afield as Madagascar, Palestine, USA and Iceland. They were each commissioned to write a ten minute piece based on ideas developed from working with the director and players in rehearsal. The show’s more poetic and spiritual elements were much inspired by the backgrounds and beliefs of the chosen composers who covered western contemporary, jazz, Middle Eastern and Malagasy roots styles.

Commissioned by The City of London Festival, the show played for two weeks at the Bridewell Theatre in June 1997, before touring to various festivals in the UK and abroad.

Devised and directed by Lucy Bailey. Designed by Simon Vincenzi Composers: Evelyn Ficarra, Jane Gardner, Said Murad, Hanitravio Rasoanaivo, John Tavener, Haukur Tomasson and Mike Westbrook.

Performers: Alison Dods, Dave LePage, Helene Lieben, violin; Nell Catchpole, viola; Chris Allan, Matt Sharp 'cello; Lucy Shaw, double bass.
