I thought Glasgow was cold last week, until I went to London with Caitrin and Heather of the Scottish Book Trust and Chloe, Maeve and Tabitha, the recipients of the Young Writer Awards 2011-12. Our trip to visit two major publishing houses, was the climax of my mentoring time with them.

We spent a fascinating morning at Penguin hearing about the publishing process and an afternoon at Scholastic where just about every department took us through the work they do.

World Book week 2012 didn't start off too well for me as a chest infection forced me to cancel my first ever school visit - sorry Bell Baxter Academy in Cupar. However, on World Book Day itself I was well enough to go to HOLYROOD SECONDARY SCHOOL in Glasgow where some amazing S3 pupils took part in a workshop based around my creepy play 'Chamber of Nothing'. They scared the life out of me with their stories and I loved every minute of it.

The following day I visited Drumchapel High School where a class of S1 pupils had prepared so many questions on writing for me that we ran out of time and I had to talk twice as fast as I usually do.
